Antony is hopelessly in love with Roxane. Roxane is in love with Christine – but a false Christine, comprised entirely of letters Cyrene wrote, and the way that Antony looks in a dress. Christine – the real one – is in love with no one, as far as anyone can tell, and Lewis is in love with the real Antony, but also the false Christine Antony, and apparently can't tell the difference.
And Cyrene, the poor fool, believes Roxane traded her skirts for breeches, just to climb into the heavens and paint the stars herself.
